A Welcome from Matt
Greetings from
all of us at Sparta United Methodist Church! As the new Director of
Youth Ministries at Sparta UMC, I am looking forward to this new fall
season of events that will engage our youth in social, service, and
spiritual activities. We have three youth groups that offer ministries
to youth from 4th through 12th grades. At our events, all are always
welcome to join us: you need not be a member of Sparta, you need not be
United Methodist, and you need not even be Christian… ALL youth are
welcome! I hope you will take the time to check out our various groups
here at Sparta and will have a chance to look at our fall event
schedules. If you have any questions, please call me at the church or
email me at matt@spartaumc.org. God’s arms and love are extended to
young people of all ages in the Bible, so too are the arms of the youth
groups at Sparta United Methodist Church. Youth Groups
Youth Group Is…+ A place to grow in one’s faith
+ A place where we can feel safe
+ A place where can trust one another
+ A place where we can have fun
+ A place where can share openly
+ A place to learn about God
+ A place to seek Jesus
+ A place to grow
Our Mission
+
To
create a safe haven where we can learn
together
+
To
have fun with the youth
+
To
show God’s love to each and every person
+
To
be an example and a role model
+
To
be an adult that youth feel safe coming to in
times of need
What Is Your
Vision!?!?!?!?
Let’s Make It
Happen!!!
The Senior High Youth Group meets twice a month. High school events will include the RISE trip in July (See below), Ocean City Youth Weekend in September, social events like Laser Tag, and spiritually uplifting events, like our fall retreat. The Senior High Group also participates in a variety of activities with other church youth groups at the District and Conference level: Box City and the 30 Hour Famine. Ocean City Youth Weekend, for instance, draws hundreds of young people from all over the state. It's a last summer bash at the beach with bands, comedians, workshops, and fun on the shore.
Junior High Youth Group (Grades 6 to 8)
The Junior High Youth Group also meets twice a month, and the 7th and 8th graders are invited to participate in confirmation. The Junior High group participates in social, service, and spiritual events including a visit to Lentini Farms, work with Manna House, and an overnight lock-in.
4th & 5th Grade Youth Group (Grades 4 & 5)
This group will meet once a month, doing similar activities as the other two groups. The goal of this group is to act as a transition for the youth from children’s ministries to youth ministries.
RISE - Risingville Interfaith Service Effort
A one week mission trip during the summer to Steuben County NY for youth who have completed grade 9 through to grade 12.
